Pastor Nominating Committee
Update: The Pastor Nominating Committee held its first meeting and was led in orientation by the Rev. Hilary Shuford, General Presbyter of Northeast Georgia Presbytery. The committee elected its leadership: Lewis Hudgins, Chair; Fran Lane, Vice-Chair; Melinda De- Maria, Recording Secretary; and Steve Covington, Corresponding Secretary. Dr. Lancaster will be working with the PNC as it develops the Ministry Information Form.
Ron Bogue sings in the Chancel Choir and teaches a Wednesday@First class on Shakespeare. He has served two terms as a Ruling Elder, has chaired the Personnel Committee and the Worship & Music Commission, and has chaired the Presbytery Personnel Committee. He served on the last Pastor Nominating Committee and chaired the Music Director Search Committee in 2012.
Sarah Bryan grew up in the PC(USA) Church and is an ordained Ruling Elder. She and her husband Robbie are the parents of Pat (5) and Petch (5) and have been members of the church for almost four years. She has taught Sunday School and volunteered at the UGA Presbyterian Student Center and with IHN. She currently serves on the Children’s Ministry Team, participates in the Connections Sunday School class, and is assisting in planning the 2017 Women’s Retreat. Sarah is an Elementary School Counselor.
Stephen Covington has served as a Ruling Elder and also as a Head Usher. Stephen has been in Business Development during his career, and has spent the past three years with River Oak Risk, an Atlanta based company. His wife, the former Greta Terrell, grew up in our church. They have two daughters, Celeste (15) and Ann Harper (13), who are active in the church Youth Group. Stephen has been a member of the church since 2006.
Melinda DeMaria has been a member of First Presbyterian Church since 2012. She has been a volunteer serving meals with Our Daily Bread and providing meals with IHN, an usher, greeter, atrium host, and taught Children’s Sunday School with her husband Don. Most recently she has served on the Children’s Ministry Renovation Team. Melinda is the Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions at UGA. She and Don are the parents of Maggie (14) and Cate (10).
Erika Hermanowicz and her husband, Joe, have been members of First Presbyterian Church for almost fifteen years. Erika is professor of Classics at the University of Georgia where she teaches Latin literature and ancient history. Erika has served on the Session and as Chair of the Mission & Outreach
Lewis Hudgins and his wife Diane have been members of First Presbyterian Church for five years and have been PC(USA) Presbyterians all their adult lives. They are both Ruling Elders and are active in church and community life. He currently serves as facilitator of the New Voices Sunday School Class and serves on the Mission & Outreach Commission. After a tour in the military, he received degrees in Public Administration and had a career in City Management, Real Estate investment, management and consulting.
Fran Lane joined the church in 1973 after marrying her husband, Richard. She has coordinated the nurseries, been a volunteer and coordinator of VBS, a Sunday School teacher, and a youth group leader. Fran has served on the Evangelism Division and as a Lay Caller. While a Ruling Elder, she chaired the Nominations and Elections Committee. She also helps coordinate our monthly shift at Our Daily Bread. Fran retired from UGA as Director of the Visitors Center and continues to work with the university’s oral history project. She and Richard have two children and three grandsons.
