Cathi and Bruce like to travel and always look for more time to spend with their family, especially their grandson! They enjoy photography, walking, and entertaining in their home. Bruce likes to cook as a way of relaxing. He enjoys playing golf and wishes he had more time for it but says that the way he plays shows that his wish has never been granted! Dear First Presbyterian Church Family,
At a called meeting on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, the session unanimously accepted the
recommendation of the interim search committee to hire Dr. Bruce Lancaster for a one-year contract effective September 8, 2016 as the Interim Senior Pastor and Head of Staff for First Presbyterian Church of Athens.
Dr. Lancaster is a highly qualified minister with 26 years of experience in called pastor positions and 11 years in interim ministry. With outstanding references, education, and skills, the search committee feels Dr. Lancaster has leadership ability that is ideal for this congregation in style and substance. Dr. Lancaster received a Bachelor’s of Business Administration from Northeast Loui-siana University, and Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Columbia Theo-logical Seminary.
When Dr. Glenn Doak retired, the interim search committee was appointed and immediately began the research and work to find the appropriate Interim Senior Pastor that would fit our congregation. With the help of Transitional General Presbyter Hilary Shuford and the Northeast Georgia Presbytery, a pool of candidates was selected. The search committee consisted of Rod Canfield (Chair), Diane Adams, Bill Childers, David Cole, Amy Cowsert, and Joy Holloway.
After interviews with several well-qualified individuals and prayerful consideration, Dr. Lancaster stood out as the best person to lead our congregation as we together seek God’s vision for our future.
Please welcome Dr. Bruce Lancaster and his wife Cathi as they become part of our wonderful congregation.
