In response to the public health crisis that has unfolded, Children’s Church is suspended.
Children in Worship, 8:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Worship Services, Sanctuary
Children are important members of our worshiping community. We promise at baptism “to guide and nurture our children by word and deed, with love and prayer, encouraging our children to know and follow Christ.” Remembering this promise and knowing that children learn best by “doing,” children are always welcome to participate fully and remain in worship with their families. The presence of children in our sanctuary is a gift and a reminder of how our church is growing and thriving. Children’s bulletins and Bibles are available every Sunday at the children’s tables located in the Narthex, and at the left and right sides of the choir loft.
Children’s Church, 11:00 a.m. Worship Service, Children’s Chapel
We offer Children’s Church on most Sunday mornings beginning in late August through mid May. The main purpose of Children’s Church is to provide a space and worship time created just for children to better support their learning of how and why we worship together in “big church.” During Children’s Church, the children will learn and experience the many ways we worship in the sanctuary – we worship God by listening to God’s Word, singing to God, praying to God, and giving to God. We will also follow the Narrative Lectionary in Children’s Church just like in big church so that the words and Bible stories the children hear in Children’s Church will be the same or similar to the words and stories that parents hear in the sermon. Learn more about the Narrative Lectionary here.
Children’s Church is an important developmental time for children, but there are times when children remaining in worship and watching and learning from their parents is even more valuable. Children are invited to remain in the sanctuary on Communion Sundays (1st Sunday of every month), the 3rd Sunday of Advent (Lessons and Carols) and on Easter. We will not have Children’s Church on these special Sundays.
When a child begins his or her 2nd Grade Year, they will begin to remain in the sanctuary for the 1st AND 3rd Sundays of the month. We will celebrate this big step for our 2nd graders as they transition into remaining in worship on World Communion Sunday, the 1st Sunday of October, at the 11:00 a.m. worship service.
