Welcome to First Presbyterian Church of Athens. We are so glad that you are considering visiting our church! Here is information on directions and parking that we hope you will find helpful.
During the summer we have a single worship service (with nursery) at 10:00 a.m., and Sunday school does not meet.
People have gathered in this sacred space since 1855 to sing praises to God, center themselves in prayer, hear Good News, and be sent out into the world to serve. Our worship is traditional and is greatly enhanced by marvelous music. At the 11:00 a.m. service, the Chancel Choir sings weekly while youth and children’s choirs sing monthly. Occasionally the handbells or other instrumentalists play. Also during the 11:00 a.m. worship service, children in third, fourth, and fifth grade serve as acolytes and lead our Call to Worship. After the Passing of the Peace, children in Pre-Kindergarten through second grade are invited to Children’s Church. Following each service there is an informal fellowship time to meet others over refreshments in the Atrium. A recent bulletin will give you a feel for how we worship.
We offer a Nursery and Childcare each Sunday from 9:00 to 11:15 a.m.
Typically we celebrate Communion on the first Sunday of the month. You are invited to bring offerings of canned food on first Sundays for donation to Athens Area Emergency Food Bank. Throughout the year, we also have special services on Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Easter, Pentecost, Scottish Reformation Sunday, and at 6:30 a.m. on the AthHalf race day.
We would love to have you join us for worship or any of our many other fellowship, educational, or service activities. Everyone is welcome. Periodically, we offer a new member class led by our pastors. For more information, please contact Lucy Bell Johnson.
