Wed@First Spring 2024

Wed@First provides an opportunity to experience Christian fellowship and growth in a relaxed atmosphere. It includes dinner, choirs, Knitting Purls 2, Shakespeare & Friends Homer’s Odyssey, beginning at 4:00 p.m. and ending at 8:00 p.m. Dinner opens at 5:30 p.m. Our after-dinner program, from 6:30-7:30 p.m., will have a Conversation about food insecurity led by Rev. Whitney Booth Lockard and Dr. Ryan Baer:

Feeding our neighbors at the Table

During Lent, we explored stories in scripture in which Jesus connected with others—welcoming, feeding, teaching—around a table. As we move into the season of Easter, we will learn more about the needs of our neighbors and how we can nourish and welcome them at our own tables. Join us on April 17 and 24 as we learn about food insecurity in Athens, organizations who are working to alleviate it, and how we can use our gifts to love our neighbors at the table.

Thanks to all who attended our panel on food insecurity in Athens on Wednesday, April 10! The conversation continues on April 17 as we welcome Sarah Beth Barger (Director of Missions Ministry at Athens First UMC) and Laura Allen (Resident Service Coordinator at Bethel Midtown). We’ll learn about the needs of our neighbors and how First UMC’s Souper Supper ministry has grown and developed to meet some of those needs.

Please RSVP for dinner in the Atrium, online, or by contacting the church office e-mail frontdesk@firstpresathens.org or call 706-543-4338 by Mondays at 12:00 p.m. Price is $12/person and a $45/family max (complimentary for children 5 and under).
